Confession is Good for the Soul

One of the things that's great about this forum is that I can admit things that I'd never admit in real life (which, frankly, isn't much but, ya know) so . . . I have a confession.

A few weeks ago, my sister and her husband came up to our place in Tahoe. My sister also brought two friends of hers that she works with (they all wanted to ski). The FOMS (friends of my sister) were two women - one in her late 20s and the other in her early thirties. They were both cute, interesting, and very nice. Everyone arrived late in the evening after H had gone to bed and H got up early the next day and left the house before anyone was up.

On Saturday, the guests were off skiing, H was out and about, and I spent the day hanging out, reading, and cooking (beef bourginon, garlic mashed potatoes, sauteed green beans, lemon meringue tart). Everyone ended up back at the house around the same time on Saturday afternoon and we all sat around and chatted, drank a glass of wine and got to know each other. Later we had dinner with great conversation, good food (if I do say so myself - it was the first time I've made any sort of beef stew that actually tasted good), and good wine. A good time was had by all.

During the evening chat, dinner, etc., the FOMS were great -- sweet, interesting, etc. -- and they were being good guests and paying attention to their hosts, especially H since I was finalizing dinner, etc., and . . . (here's my confession) I actually found myself feeling a pang of jealousy. It totally surprised me and I tried to dispel it by acknowledging it to myself and realizing how dumb it was but . . . it wouldn't go away. I had this actual territorial feeling of jealousy about H and the FOMS paying such attention to him. It wasn't a raging feeling, more of a low-level, constant twang but . . . there it was.

I've been wanting to get that off my chest for a few weeks now. Thought about telling H but he would think it was too funny. Thought about telling my sister but, she'd think it was too funny. So, ahhhhhhh . . . finally, sweet release!
