Miscellanea

How do I . . .
I heard this song on the radio the other day, the Lea Ann Rimes version and, while it is a pretty song I found myself thinking, "Gawd, I could never feel this way about anyone. How in the world does someone ever get to where they think they can't live without someone?" and it renewed a recurring curiosity about whether I'm a sociopath. I'm not a true sociopath because I do care about some things but, I can easily turn stuff off that most folks can't.

Work has been a monster lately. I had hired a guy who everyone loved during the interview process and he turned out to be a . . . not sure what. Martian? Self-obsessed kook? Not sure how to describe him but he set us months behind in our biggest project by spending all his time doing everything but his work. He did things like deleting entire projects that belong to other people because he didn't like the way they were set up. Or, locking everyone out of projects that are public projects because he wanted to restructure them. Or, converting other people's projects to versions that they cannot use because he likes them that way (regardless of the fact that he wasn't supposed to be even accessing them). Issuing orders to my department to do things that I specifically told them (and him) not to do. Etc., etc., etc.

I finally fired him but not before he wreaked major havoc. So, now everyone's working long and hard to try to make up for the setbacks but . . . we're still not going to make our deadline.

My experiment of letting my niece live with me didn't go well. Everyone warned me, she's kind of moody, but I just thought they didn't understand her. Well, she's really moody and pretty much stays stoned every minute that she's not at work (and sometimes when she is) and doesn't understand the concept of common areas not being places where you can do anything you want like smoke pot or sit in your underwear, etc. So I informed her that we needed to break up she didn't take it well. In fact, she flipped out and became a fucking monster. She reminded me of a wounded badger fighting to kill.

It was ugly. But, now that it's over . . . she emailed me to tell me that she's sorry for her part in it but that I owed her an apology because I was as abusive as she was. Wow. I pretty much just ignored her attacks and told her things like "get help". Okay, I admit that I did get petty once and call her chubby but, that really wasn't anything because . . . well . . . it's true.

That's it for now.
