For some reason, I’m already thinking about the holidays and looking forward to them. This has apparently impacted my sanity because I’ve invited all my sibs to our Tahoe place for Thanksgiving.
As expected, my brothers and their families accepted but my sister (the nut job of the family) is preferring to stay in the bay area. The beauty of this is that it will make the holiday fun. No-one will have to walk around on eggshells waiting to see who she’s going to go off on. For some reason, she did not inherit the same sense of humor as the rest of us and often gets offended if we laugh at something she doesn’t think is funny and, if she’s been drinking, often gets quite peeved.
I’m determined to get as much as possible done ahead of time so that I can relax and enjoy the holiday. To that end, I’m contemplating following something like the menu outlined on Cook’s Illustrated which includes a timeline (and how far ahead certain things can be made, etc.). Both my brothers are great cooks so . . . the menu will have to be good.
The bro’s and fams are arriving on Wednesday and staying through to Saturday morning which will be great. This will allow us to hang all day on Thanksgiving, spend some time together on Friday – hikes, etc. – and give them time at home before going back to work, etc. Although, that said, none of my brothers have normal work schedules. They mostly all work for themselves and don’t do the 9 to 5, Monday thru Friday thing and their wives don’t work so . . . I guess that’s kinda moot. Although, now that I think of it, their kids will probably have to go back to school on Monday.
So, I’m looking forward to it, should be a good time.
