Ew

So, yesterday, at the oldest brother's party . . . one of my other brothers was strutting around because his daughter's 22 year old roommate called him a DILF.

HIPY PAPY BTHUTHDTH THUTHDA

So . . . my oldest brother turned 50 yesterday. How in the world I ended up with a 50 year old sibling, I’m not sure but . . . I did.

So, for the last few weeks, one of my other brothers (let’s call him George) and I were trying to organize a surprise party for the old boy (let’s call him Steve) and . . . it’s not easy to get 20 people in one place at one time. If we had it on this day so-and-so can come but has to leave by 2:00 but whosit can’t come; but if we have it on that day whosit and this-and-such can come but not so-and-so; etc., etc., etc.

So, we finally got to the point where we just said, “Okay, here’s the date and time. Show up or don’t.” and . . . surprisingly, everyone showed up. This was the first time that all of my siblings and their wives and husbands and their children were all together in one place since Thanksgiving, 1997.

So, the ruse was that all of Steve’s children except the youngest had plans for the day and couldn’t spend any time with him. His youngest, Katharina, was the only one who had time to spend with him and, knowing Steve like we do, we knew he would let her choose what she wanted to do for the day.

So the day came and Katharina told him that she wanted to go to the bay area. That morning George called Steve to wish him happy birthday and to ask out what his plans were for the day. Steve told George that Katharina wanted to go to the bay area so George said, “If you do, come by my place. We can hang out, watch some football, drink beer, and just relax.” So Steve agreed.

So we all got there an hour or so before and when Steve and Katharina showed up, we hid in the bar. George answered the door and we could hear them chatting and then George said, “Let’s go get a beer.” And walked to the bar. As they walked in we all jumped out from our various hiding places and yelled, “SURPRISE!!!!!” and . . . boy was he. My sister-in-law filmed it and it was so funny watching his reaction. He was so shocked and pleased it was funny.

Steve is Switzerland in our family. He will not take sides in any fight or voice any opinions—to a fault, and it pains him that all of his other siblings squabble with each other quite a bit so for all of us to be in one place at one time and getting along was, for him, the best present that he could ask for.

We ate like pigs, gabbed, took group pictures, and played games. It was a really good day all the way around and maybe, the start of the family being close again. Who knows?
