This year was odd in that we had no plans what-so-ever for the fourth. I got to Tahoe Tuesday night, worked from home Wednesday and Thursday, and just hung out. There are several locations on the lake that have firework displays and they spread them out over three days. Thursday it was in King’s Beach, Friday – the fourth – they were in Tahoe City, Incline Village, and South Lake Tahoe (if you position yourself well you can see all three), and today our little town has a display.
We were invited to a party in King’s Beach on Thursday but I didn’t feel like going so we just went out to dinner, watched the fireworks, went to the casinos for an hour or so, and then home. Yesterday we barbecued at home and then walked over to the lake to watch the fireworks around the lake but . . . I have to say, it’s just not the same if you’re not right there where they’re being shot off. Watching them from a distance just doesn’t give me the same thrill.
Today was errand day – went to the hardware store to get stuff, etc., and then came home and ate leftovers. We were going to walk over to the fireworks but, eh.
The pollen up here has been so awful this year, it’s amazing. When H had the deck restained, he had them stain these two outdoor shelves that we have and I was looking at them today and they looked green. I couldn’t figure out why and when I walked up close to them I realized it was because they were so covered in pollen. Sick.
The other thing that’s been awful this year are ants. This area has ant problems in general (big, huge, gigantor, mutant ants) but we’ve never had problems. We have the outside sprayed every year and that’s that but . . . even though we had the house sprayed this year, they’re still everywhere. Jack and Scout have had their weekly allowance of wet food cut back as they’re not doing their jobs. When the giant ants stroll by, they watch them lazily and do nothing. Punks.
Now, you have to understand that my hatred of ants is second only to my hatred of squirrels, so . . . it’s been pretty tough. Not to mention that I constantly feel like they’re crawling all over me and it’s driving me insane. I’m waging my war against them with Terro and hope that works as well with them as it does with the normal little ants. I put a bunch on a paper plate and set it on the kitchen counter and they’re drinking it up and everytime I pass it I can’t help but say (out loud), “Drink up mother fuckers, drink up . . . take that poison back to the nest and perform your little insecticide.” I swear one ant started up at the Terro trough skinny and when he left he’d doubled in size . . . that’s right . . . drink up mother fuckers . . . take in all you can and share, share, share with your brethren.
Other than that, not too much of note.
Hope you had a happy and safe Fourth.
