Kick in the Butt
I'm flying to New York City tomorrow for a few days for work. I have a ton of work to do before Monday and, instead of doing it I'm sitting here watching "The C Word". I need a kick in the ass.

The End Is Coming . . .
The divisional championships have been decided. The Green Bay Packers will represent the NFC and the Pittsburgh Steelers will represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. This leaves one exhibition game (the Pro Bowl next weekend) and one real game (the Super Bowl the following weekend) and then the 2010 NFL season will come to a close.
It's been one crazy year as far as teams go -- good teams struggled, mediocre teams thrived, and bad teams got lucky here and there. There was no single dominant team or teams like there often is. It was my favorite year in a very long time because my Raiders did NOT have a losing season, I got to see three live Colts games and they made it to the playoffs (even if they did get knocked off in round one). And . . . even though neither of my two favorite teams made it to the Super Bowl, my third favorite team (Pittsburgh) did.
Funny thing is, Packers are my fourth fave team so . . . no matter who wins the Super Bowl, I'll be happy. I realize this is a chick thing but . . . I'm a chick! And proud of it. I would love to watch the Pro Bowl because it'll be my last chance to see Manning play this season but . . . I'll be on a plane heading for New York City so . . . I'll have to record it.
I've washed, folded and put away my Raiders and Colts shirts and hats. I'll be anxiously awaiting April when the team game schedules will come out (assuming the NFL and the union come to some agreement) and I can start planning my attendance for the 2011 season. Then, come August (and preseason games) I'll pull out the shirts and hats, give 'em a wash, and start all over again.
I think this year I'll buy only one season ticket to the Raiders -- I bought two this year so I could take friends and family who might want to go but . . . I found out that I really don't like going with most people. Female friends wanted to chat most of the game and didn't take it seriously. Same with guy friends who aren't into the Raiders. I go for the game. Not as a social event. I watch the game. I jump up and down, yell, whistle, etc., and . . . I WATCH the game. There were only a couple of people that I enjoyed taking to the game -- my brothers, my nephew, and one of my nieces and . . . to be completely honest, the games that I enjoyed the most were the games I went to alone.
I'm irked with one of my favorite Colts players. He was voted into the Pro Bowl -- an honor which requires fan votes, player votes and coach votes -- but he announced last week that he will not be playing due to injury. No details about the injury -- what it is, why he can't play, etc. -- and he's been seen out partying and "clubbin'" in Miami, etc.
Being one of the fans that voted for him, repeatedly, I feel that he isn't showing the proper appreciation of the honor that's been bestowed on him. There are MANY good players who didn't make it that would love to and . . . I just feel that we all deserve a better explanation as to why he's not playing. What's the injury? Why can't he play? Etc. Without that, I won't vote for him next year. And no, I don't think he deserves to not say. He chose a public profession and with that comes some obligation. In my opinion.
So, come February I'll go through my usual couple of weeks of trying to figure out what to do with my Sundays and then move on to a normal life . . . for about 5 months. I've unfollowed all players (except 1 or 2) on twitter because I really don't want to know what they do off-season because I learned that I liked most of them MUCH better before following them on twitter and seeing what they're really like.
