Curb Your Enthusiasms

I was watching one of my favorite episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm and there were so many lines that made me laugh out loud but here's a couple of my favorites:

These big vagina ladies are getting away with murder.

The problem didn't lie with his small penis . . . but with your huge vagina.

I submit you took that baseball, stashed it in your unusually large vagina and walked right on out of here!

June 12, 2009

Today I worked from home, one of my favorite things about my job. I woke up and watched the Star Trek episodes "Errand of Mercy" and "Return of the Archons" while lying in bed and then got up, made myself a pot of coffee and sat on the deck drinking coffee and eating my blueberry muffin and watched the cats roll around like little sausages.

I logged onto the network around 9:30 and took care of a few things and then headed off to my hair cut appointment. My stylist did something different this time which is okay but looks a little mushroomy. He made the top layers a little deeper and more dramatic so they no longer blend into the longer hair and the way he styled it made that part poofy and the straight part looked super straight so it looks mushroomy. We'll see what it looks like after I wash it. He keeps leaving my bangs long which bothers me (and which makes me end up doing the clippy thing with my bangs which makes me look like a 5 year old) despite my telling him to cut them shorter.

Came home and ate an artichoke and did a little more work and then discovered that the Showtime On Demand area has all of Season 1 and 2 of Dexter available so . . . I made some popcorn and started watching Dexter. Annnnd . . . that's pretty much all I did for the rest of the day. I ordered Chinese food delivered -- curry chicken, ma po tofu, pork fried rice, and chive dumplings. Ate dinner and talked with my friend D for two hours on the phone and then . . . back to watching Dexter. I didn't go get paint. I didn't go buy plants. I didn't go grocery shopping. I didn't do any of the things I planned to do this evening but, that's okay.

I just ate a skinny cow ice cream sandwich, took my metformin, and am going to watch a little more Dexter.

I'm planning on getting up super early tomorrow and heading up to Tahoe.

Day 1

I'm going to try to blog daily so I have some idea what the heck my life was when I get senile.

I think I need a new bed, I haven't been sleeping well lately. I don't think it's physical cuz when I was in Arizona I slept like I used to -- out like a light and slept non-stop until I woke up in the morning. Another factor was the lack of cats crawling all over me all night. Which is why I think I need a new bed -- I want a king size so I have more room for everyone.

I woke up around 6:00 and started watching episodes of Star Trek -- the original series. I watched "Devil in the Dark" which was hilarious, especially when the lava rock creature etched "No Kill" in the rock -- it was amazing, not only did it understand English but it could write it as well! Who would expect that? Then I watched "A Taste of Armageddon" which is the one about the world that is at war with its neighbor but they just calculate casualties and people have to report to these stations to be destroyed. I've always hated the Anon7 character (the head of the world they beam down to) and am always glad to see him brought down.

I got out of bed around 8:30 and jumped in the shower. Got dressed and was looking at myself in the mirror and lately I've been wearing my hair down with a clip holding up my bangs and I like the look but today it made me think of the term "mutton dressed as lamb". I'm not that old and I know that I don't look anywhere near my age (when I was at the doctor's last Friday he kept talking about contracting diabetes at my young age so I told him how old I was and he was startled -- he even opened my chart to confirm) and I realized that wearing my hair like this makes me look even younger -- which is a good thing.

I don't know why this all sorta hit me today but it did and I started thinking about how I always feel so bad for older women I see wearing clothes or hairstyles that are too young for them -- I feel like someone needs to tell them how ridiculous they look -- and started feeling kind of uncomfortable and wondering if I was approaching mutton-haired-as-lamb.

I made myself a cup of coffee and headed out to work. Stopped at a donut shop for a crumb donut -- they make their own and they're the raised donuts instead of cake donuts and they have crumbs and cinnamon and nuts and they're sooooo good. Drove in, talked with H on the drive in, and got there in good time -- only 1 hour.

I was scheduled to give a demo to L, the owner of the company, of a new software app that we're working on and . . . of course, the guys had made some changes overnight and now it wasn't working. Spent the next hour hiding from L and scrambling to get it fixed. They thought it was ready so I jogged into my office to find . . . L sitting in there waiting for me. Just then, the IT folks did something to one of the machines I needed so I had a great reason for stalling.

Got the app working and did my demo and he was pleased. After the demo I took a few of my folks out to welcome a new employee and we had a good lunch. I had a roasted chicken breast stuffed with foie gras and porcini mushrooms with mashed potatoes and this great sauce.

I kinda felt bad because there's one member of the team that is a contractor, not an employee, and I didn't invite her. HR says that I cannot treat her like an employee and must make sure to establish a clear distinction and I understand why but, still felt kinda bad. To make matters more complicated, the gal who we were welcoming was a contractor that I hired as a full time employee and the other gal -- the one I didn't invite -- really wants to be a permanent employee too but, I can't bring myself to hire her.

She's smart and her work is good but, she's a really difficult person to get along with. She's been much better since her agency talked to her about this and she makes it a point to constantly tell me how well the team gets along now (since the guy who stormed out last month left -- she and he were like cats and dogs) and I have to keep pointing out that they always got along well, it was just she and the stormed-out-guy who didn't. Anyway, I was thinking (for like the fourth time) of hiring her until I asked my main guy in that group how things were going and he said that even though they brought the project in a week ahead of time, the could have brought it in two weeks ahead except for having to deal with her and that was pretty much the final straw. It's hard cuz I know how bad she wants it.

After lunch it was back to work and the weekly team meeting. I need to figure out how to shorten them. I aim for an hour and it usually goes two. By the end of the meeting it was 4:30 so I spent a couple of hours dealing with this and that and then headed home.

On the way home I talked with my friend C, made plans to get together for dinner next week. Then talked with my friend D and confirmed that she got the computer I sent her and planned to talk tomorrow -- she's the one in Arizona. Got home, played with the cats, looked at myself in the mirror and contemplated the mutton-haired-as-lamb issue, ate an artichoke, and am now watching Dexter -- I was a late convert so am catching up on Season 1 and 2.

Tomorrow I need to go get some paint and stuff and then head up to Tahoe.

Farm Aid . . . Help!

Here's a picture of the bumps and yellow leaves (click on the pic for a close up). I tried looking it up on the web but, couldn't really find anything. I have a low ick factor for some things and these bumps make the hair on the back of my neck stand up -- I know, I'm a weenie. I would never have made it as a farmer.

Any ideas? Anyone seen this before?
