Miscellanea - March 08, 2007

I had a weird dream last night. It was Halloween and I was dressed as a Charlie Brown ghost and I decided to stop by Emma’s office to say hello. I walked up with my costume on and she knew it was me. She was acting bitchy and told me that I needed to help her with some work of hers and she made me take off my costume and help her on the computer. As I was sitting at her desk trying to fix her computer, someone walked up and thought I was her and started talking to me and I was sitting there listening to them thinking, “Why do you think I’m Emma?” I don’t remember the rest of the dream.

There were a couple of things that I needed from the drugstore so around 4:00 I decided that I needed a break and walked to the Walgreens around the corner from my office. I got the things I needed (dental floss, water, hairpins, sunflower seeds) and headed up to the counter. I put my basket up and the fellow behind the counter said hello and started ringing up my purchases.

About half way through it dawned on me that I hadn’t even looked at this person and I don’t think I responded when he said hello. This is really not like me (my friends tease me about talking with everyone I meet) and all of a sudden I had this flash about how I was just totally dismissing him as a person and I wondered . . . was it because he was a middle-aged man working at Walgreens and that somewhere in my mind he was considered someone I could just ignore? I am not normally like that so I figured it was just that I was tired and distracted but . . . the thought really bothered me so I made a point to look up at him, smile, say hello, and ask him about his day.

Funny thing is, he was all surly and snarly and I couldn’t figure out if that was his nature or if he was responding to my initial slight. So, after I finished with him I watched him with the next person and decided it was his nature. But, it’s still no excuse for my initial bad behavior.

I’ve become a litter bug. Not sure when it happened or why (I generally abhor littering) but . . . lately I find myself throwing little things out the window like the little hard green thing at the top of an orange where the stem was once attached . . . or . . . the little ½ an inch at the bottom of a banana that I don’t want to eat . . . or . . . (this is the biggest thing I’ve thrown out so far) an apple core.

I justify it by telling myself that I only throw out biodegradable things and I only throw them out where there are lots of plants and stuff and where I suspect there will be animals that might want to eat them but . . . it’s still not right. Everytime I do it I remind myself that if everyone did it the sides of the streets would be piled high with rotting vegetation and then I think . . . “mulch!!” or “compost!!” Each time I do it I expect someone to chase me down and do something horrible to me but . . . it hasn’t happened yet. I really need to stop.

Okay, I have to go to bed now cuz I have to fly off to a client site tomorrow and work with them and train them and . . . I hate traveling for biz.

Caffeine

Woke up at 5:00 a.m. with a migraine and I realized it was probably due to not having had any caffeine for the last 48 hours. I thought about having some to get me through the headache but decided that I should push through and kick the addiction. So, I took a bunch of Aleve and went back to sleep. Woke up around 10:30 and took two more . . . went back to sleep . . . woke up around 2:00 and took two more and back to sleep. Finally got up around 4:30 and the headache was down to a dull roar.

Got out of bed and was feeling a little shaky. Had a banana and called a friend to see if she wanted to grab some dinner. She did. So we went out for a burger and I successfully avoided caffeine.

So, now I’m going to go back to sleep.

Later.

A day in the life . . . of a sloth

Today was a perfectly wasted day.

I woke up, got out of bed, brushed my teeth (but didn’t shower), and made myself some breakfast – cottage cheese (4%) with grapes and sliced bananas. Ate my breakfast while watching a Law & Order episode on DVD. Finished watching the episode and took a nap.

Woke up, watched some more tv, made myself a grilled ham and provolone sandwich. Ate that while watching tv. Checked email. Answered a couple of emails. Wandered onto the shelf site and poked around there for a while.

Watched more television and then took a nap. Woke up, ate an oatmeal raisin cookie, and watched more tv.

Vacuumed my place, started the dishwasher, washed the few dishes in the sink that couldn’t go into the dishwasher, and then took another nap.

Woke up. Ate an orange. Watched more tv. Made myself a piece of fish and an artichoke for dinner. Ate dinner while watching tv. Cleaned up the kitchen. Watched more tv. Did some banking. Watched more tv.

Poked around the site some more. Watched more tv. Gonna eat another cookie and then brush my teeth and then hit the hay.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood today . . . high 60s to low 70s, clear blue sky, very slight little breeze. Just lovely.

I got up and did a little work and then a friend called to see if I wanted to go to dim sum for brunch. I headed over to meet her and we had a great brunch at our favorite little Chinese restaurant. After brunch, it was such a nice day we took a stroll around the downtown area and did some window shopping.

I realized that I had left my Blackberry at home and that made it just that much nicer.

She’s dog-sitting her ex-boyfriend’s dog so we headed back to her house to check on the pup. She has a lovely backyard so we sat in the backyard, gabbing, soaking up the sun and playing with the pup. Then, we packed up the pup and drove over to a local park and the three of us went for a nice long hike.

After the hike, we went back to her house and sat in the backyard just enjoying the weather and doing nothing and it was great.

Around sunset we realized we were hungry again so headed over to Whole Foods where we got a couple of great pieces of fish and some veges, and came back and had a great dinner. Now that I’m back home I’m going to check out the Blackberry Cabernet Sorbet from Ciao Bella that I picked up at the market. Hopefully it will be a nice ending to a great day.
