Too Much Football on the Brain

I fell asleep in front of the tv last night and it was tuned to the NFL Channel and I had the weirdest dream.

I dreamt that I got a bunch of tickets to the Super Bowl and they were great seats -- field level, not too far down and not too high up, 50 yard line, etc. I was amazed that at this late date that I could get any tickets at all let alone a bunch of them AND such good seats.

So, the day of the game, a bunch of us headed off to the game and it wasn't just like going to a stadium and going inside. You had to park far away and take a tram to the site and when you got there it was crazy. For a good mile around the stadium they had stuff going on. One area had a circus, another area was set up for a jousting tournament, another area was a lake with boat rides, etc. I went to an area that was set up like a maze using hay bales so it wasn't very tall.

There were a bunch of players there practicing and a bunch of fans watching and as it got closer to game time they all slowly filtered out until there was only one player left and it was Peyton Manning. Most of the fans had filtered out as well and there were only two other people there watching besides me. So, I walked out onto the maze to talk to PM (I was wearing, strangely enough, shorts and a sweatshirt with cut off sleeves).

I walked out onto the maze and Manning saw me and threw the ball to me. I caught it and threw it back and he asked me some question -- I don't recall what -- and I answered. I asked why he hadn't left for the game yet and he said he had time. We chatted pretty casually and then he asked if I'd grab his wallet that he left in the stands. I went over and found a ziplock bag with a credit card in it with his name on it. I picked it up and took it out to him and asked, "Really? Your wallet is a ziplock bag?" and he laughed and said he needed it to be waterproof.

We kept chatting, totally casually - not in a flirting way, and I asked him a couple of times whether he should get going cuz the game was starting but he wasn't worried. Finally he asked if I was going to the game and I said that I was. He asked where my seats were and I told him. He said that he'd look for me and that he had to go and we left to go to the stadium. We got there and he went off to the locker room and I went to look for my seat.

The stadium was ENORMOUS and I had to take a tram to the section where my seat was and it was weird. Imagine looking down at a normal sports stadium, now imagine another ring around the outside of the stadium and that ring is another whole structure of seats. My seat was in the outer ring so they were looking at the backside of the inner ring seating structure. There were big gaps where you could see through to the field but there were big columns too which blocked the view as well. Needless to say, I was majorly bummed so I left and went to the main stadium (the inner ring, as it were).

It was crazy. The top of the first deck was like a shopping mall. It had stores and theatres and restaurants, etc. I was wandering around up there and I had something in my hands -- I can't remember what -- and there was a man walking next to me with his handicapped son. His son saw whatever it was in my hands and he wanted it. He was trying to grab it from me but I wouldn't let him have it. His father asked if I would sell it to him and I said no. The boy wouldn't stop and the father kept bugging me to sell it so . . . (you knew this was coming, right?) I asked where his seats were and they were perfect seats so, I told him I would give him the object if he traded seats with me.

He hadn't been to his seats yet so he said he wanted to go see them first before he made up his mind. So, we headed down to his seats and when we got there, there was a moat between the upper deck and the field and the seats were actually on a boat that circled the field. So, we waited for the next boat and got on and the guy sat in his seat and we made one trip around the field while he decided whether he wanted to trade. It was a beautiful day and I was standing there thinking, "There's no way he's going to trade this seat for (whatever the object was)" and . . . that's when I woke up.

Miscellanea

Resolution Checkin: Well, I kinda suck so far on my resolutions. The only one I've remotely come close to keeping is the stopping swearing. The next best so far is that I did lose 4 lbs.

It's been a weird year. Not a good one. Work is hell. Personal life is a pain in the butt but hopefully will calm down soon (don't want to jinx it).

But, in the last week I did get a marriage proposal and carded when buying alcohol!

I was going through the Bay Bridge Toll Plaza last week and when I handed the toll guy my money . . .

Him: My god, you're beautiful.
Me: Huh? Oh . . . thanks.
Him: Seriously, you are beautiful.
Me: Uh, thanks.
Him: I mean it. Seriously. Are you married?
Me: Nope.
Him: Boyfriend?
Me: Nope.
Him: (gets down on his knees) I can't believe how beautiful you are, will you marry me?
Me: (bouncing finger at him for emphasis) You . . . need . . . help!
Him: (as I drove away) Marry me! You're beautiful!!!

Then, a few days later, I was at the grocery store and one of the things I was buying was vermouth (for my first ever attempt to make a martini) and as I was checking out . . .

Lady: Can I see your ID?
Me: What?
Lady: I'd like to see your ID.
Me: Why?
Lady: Please show me your ID.
Me: Why do you need to see my ID? I've never been asked for my ID when grocery shopping before.
Lady: Miss, either show me your ID or I'll have to call the manager.
Me: Are you kidding? For what reason?
Lady: I need to verify your age.
Me: Why? What does my age have to do with anything?
Lady: I need to verify that you're 21.
Me: (understanding dawning) Huh? You want to see if I'm 21?
Lady: Miss, for the vermouth.
Me: (understanding settling in) Ohhhhhhhh, ha ha ha ha ha ha, are you serious? For the alcohol?
Lady: Yes.
Me: Ha ha ha ha ha ha, I will gladly show you my ID. You'll feel foolish once you see it.
Lady: (when she sees my ID) Whoa!
Me: Thanks, I think.
Lady: You do not look your age.
Me: Thanks, but I think you must need glasses.
Lady: No, really. We have to card anyone who doesn't look 30 but I seriously couldn't tell if you were 21.
Me: Thanks but, you really, really must need glasses. Sorry for the attitude, it's been so long since I've been carded I couldn't figure out what the heck you were asking for.
Lady: No problem! I just wasn't sure.
Me: Well, you've probably made my year!

The rest of the year's been crappy.

More as it happens.
