The Man in the Mirror

NG and I spent the day with some friends. We went to one of those arcade places with miniature golf, go karts, etc., and had a blast.

NG is very competitive when it comes to sports with other guys (not with me) -- so he and Frank were smack talking each other all day about how the NGs were going to beat the Franks and vice versa. Well, we lost. By 3 points. I beat the female Frank (FF) by 1 point; NG lost to the male Frank (MF) by 4 points. But, it was fun.

Then, NG and I went on the bumper boats and THAT was a TON of fun. I got SOAKED cuz all the little boys on the water were following NG's lead and he, of course, was focusing his water squirter on me so . . . at one point it was me, surrounded by bumper boats just being drenched but it was hilarious and since it was a warm day it actually felt good. One thing I will say though is that I was the ONLY one who both bumped and squirted. Most of the guys just squirted, I was ramming people -- that, to me, was the more fun part.

We went to an early dinner and afterwards, to get ice cream. So, we're in the ice cream place and FF takes a bite of what she got and says to MF -- this is really good, try it. He scrunches up his face and says, no. She tries once more to get him to try it and he just will not.

After we left, NG says to me -- did you see how MF wouldn't even try the ice cream that FF was trying to get him to try? I couldn't believe the way he was just like, "NO" and wouldn't even consider trying it.

My response?  Well, NG . . . those who live in glass houses . . .

NG is a picky eater. His first reaction to anything new is the same exact thing. He's gotten better lately and will randomly decide to try something -- maybe 1/3 of the time but it was so funny to hear how shocked he was by MF's behavior.

Wow

I didn't realize it'd been so long since I blogged. Let's see . . . what have I been up to . . .

So, the Nashville/Atlanta/Wilmington trip was great. As most of you have probably experienced, just because you like or love someone doesn't mean you travel well together so I was kind of wondering how NG and I would travel and . . . we travelled very well together.

Met pretty much all of his living relatives of his generation or older so -- all of his siblings, his mother, aunts and several of his cousins (he has a ton -- one aunt alone had 15 kids) and every one of them were great. Nice, friendly, loving, etc.  We had a great time.

Nashville was cool -- I was there for business but we got some fun in there and it's definitely a place we'd like to go back to and explore more. We saw a couple of great blues bands, ate some good food, he caught up with some very old friends (that he hadn't seen since high school and who happen to live in Nashville now) and we had a lot of fun.

Atlanta and Wilmington were all about family. We didn't do any sight-seeing, just pretty much saw family and his old friends, went out to dinner, etc., but it was fun. We landed in Philly the Saturday morning that Irene was supposed to hit. I've never been in a hurricane and was super excited at the prospect but . . . it was pretty much a non-event however it did seem to impact the weather because it was PERFECT in the days following. Mid 70s, low humidity, just lovely.

We got back at the end of August, just in time for Labor Day weekend. Didn't do much that weekend other than go to a couple of barbeques. Since then it's just been work and regular life. I was in Denver last week for a conference and that was interesting cuz it started snowing the night before I left and snowed pretty heavily. When I left Denver it was 30 degrees and dumping snow.  Landed in the bay area to 75 degrees and sunny.  Gotta love it.

I think that's about it for now -- I know, not very exciting.

Oh, and for those who didn't see it on The Old Broards -- I got married.
